Request Management

Material requests can be created on BrightLab and they follow an approval process. Depending on your role and authorization level, you can either create or approve material request created in BrightLab.

Authorization level for lab users: Lab Managers can approve requests. Lab Members do not have the authorization to approve requests.

Step 1: Click on Add Request on the right vertical bar of the request module.

Step 2: Search by name or catalog # to get results from the company catalog.

Step 3: Click Request on the bottom right of the pop-up window.

Step 4: Once created, the requested item will be visible under the requested tab.

Requested > Approved> Ordered > Received

Lab Managers or Lab Owners can approve material requests.

Step 1: Go under requested tab to view requested items.

Step 2: Click on approve or reject request button (cart icons) for each selected request.

Step 3: Once approved, it goes to the approved tab on the request page. If a request is rejected, it gets removed from the requested tab.

Yes, you can use the cost center field either while creating or entering the cost center once the request has been created.

Yes, you can edit your request before approval. Once it’s approved, you are unable to edit it.

Yes, you can withdraw your request before approval. Once it’s approved, you are unable to withdraw it. A Lab Member can request the Lab Manager to remove the request.

To add comments to a request under the requested tab, click the comment icon to enter comments. Once finished, enter the next arrow to save changes. This feature applies to other tabs in the Request Management workflow.

Yes, you can create a report of requested items. Select the items you want to be added to the report and click the download icon to download report as an Excel file. This feature applies to other tabs in the Request Management workflow.

To sort items in the requested tab, click the sort icon to sort by name or price. This feature applies to other tabs in the Request Management workflow.

DNS stands for Do Not Substitute. You can turn on this feature for each selected item(s) if you do not want a substitute even if the product is unavailable or backordered. This feature applies to other tabs in the Request Management workflow.

Yes, you can filter items using various parameters. To use the filter option, click the funnel filter icon and select the parameters of interest. Filter applied to a specific tab stays consistent across other tabs in the Request Management workflow.

You can find the list of requests approved by your lab manager in the “Approved” tab.

To mark an item as Ordered, click the dollar icon for each selected request under the approved tab. This action moves the request to the Ordered status.

Step 1: Go to the Approved tab to view the list of approved items.

Step 2: Click on “Mark requested” icon to remove approval and move request to Requested status.

Yes, you can create request for a previously requested item easily, without entering the details again. To perform this action, under the Ordered/Received tab, select the item that you want to request again and click the third “Repeat Request” icon. This action will create a request for the item which will be visible under the Requested tab.

Yes, you can track orders on BrightLab if you update the requested tab with pertinent product order details.

Step 1: Under the Approved tab, choose the request you want to mark as ordered and click on the mark ordered icon. This will move your request to the Ordered tab.

Step 2: Go to the Ordered tab and enter the sales order number manually.

Yes, you can move an ordered request back to Approved status, if the product was not ordered through BrightLab. To perform this action, select the request and click the “Mark Approved” icon under the Ordered tab. This action moves the request to the Approved tab.

You can add order number to selected requests that have been ordered or received. Under the Ordered or Received tab, select the requests to which you want to add the order number. Then click the hash symbol icon to add the order number to all selected requests.

Under the ordered tab, when you click the mark received icon, your request will be marked as received and will be visible under the Received tab on the Request home page.
